I will not be responsible for any damage resulting from 9 not paying attention when needed, lack of will to read documentation, or lack of 10 experience in administering a Unix-like system. You have been warned, so please 11 pay attention, read the documentation, search the Web and avoid sending 12 questions or requests for guidance. 13 14 What I will appreciate, and will take into consideration, are patches solving 15 potential issues or adding missing _planned_ functionality. 16 17 18 Installation 19 ------------ 20 21 Installation is quite straightforward: adjust lib/env.sh, then run the numbered 22 scripts, 01-* to 05-*. This will leave you with a directory $GR (by default, 23 $HOME/galeb-root) containing the files of the root filesystem, and a compressed 24 raw disk image made from those files. 25 26 02-chroot.sh needs to be run with root privileges, which you will be warned 27 about if you try to execute it as a regular user. Other than that, just pay 28 attention to on-screen prompts and messages. See BOOTING and "Things to do after 29 booting" below for information on what to do next. 30 31 Note: Files in the created directory $GR are configured for a system booted from 32 a USB medium. You should adjust files like /etc/fstab and /etc/rc.conf if you 33 don't intend on using the raw disk image, and wish to install the files directly 34 (for example, with rsync(1)). 35 36 37 Prebuilt boot image 38 ------------------- 39 40 Bootstrap scripts (01-* … 05-*) produce a boot image, which is planned to be 41 available to download separately. The boot image contains the compiled packages 42 in binary form in /pkg, intended to be used on the x86_64 architecture. When 43 booting from this prebuilt boot image, you can login as the user "root" with a 44 password "root" (in contrast, you will be prompted to set a root password if you 45 build from source). 46 47 48 Things to do after booting 49 -------------------------- 50 51 * Create regular user accounts with useradd(8). 52 53 * rsync files from the boot USB flash to the prepared hard disk partitions and 54 adjust the configuration files. 55 56 * Continuing from this, /etc/fstab needs special attention for filesystems to be 57 properly mounted. If you used PARTUUID, double check if the PARTUUIDs match 58 the ones for the partitions *on the hard disk*! 59 60 * Setup UEFI entries for booting from hard disk (see BOOTING). 61 62 * After rebooting from hard disk, install more software from source or using the 63 package manager mkpk(8).
